On Thursday, October 22, 2009, the Portsmouth Public Education Foundation (PPEF) held its seventh annual Fall Showcase at Green Valley Country Club to recognize the Portsmouth teachers who had received PPEF Educational Excellence Grants during the 2008-2009 school year. Eighteen grants were awarded. The room was packed with displays of their talented projects and products that were produced in their classrooms with funds received from these grants. The event was well attended with about 100 members from the school community, local town officials and general supporters of PPEF. (Check out more pictures on PPEF Facebook).

The presentation was opened with Sarah DelSanto, a junior at Portsmouth High School, who sang the National Anthem. The PPEF 2009 Teacher of the Year, Ms. Cheryl DelSanto, was recognized and presented with a plaque by NewportFed President, Mr. Kevin McCarthy. Ms. DelSanto also received a $1000.00 unrestricted grant from PPEF. Mr. McCarthy then presented the principals of Portsmouth High School and Portsmouth Middle School with Teacher of the Year school plaques since Ms. DelSanto taught at both schools. NewportFed sponsored this year’s Teacher of the Year.

In addition to PPEF corporate sponsor, NewportFed, PPEF President Helen Furriel acknowledged the supporters of this past school year including the Mr. Albert Honnen Family, the Melville Parent Teacher Group, and Senator Charles Levesque.

The evening was highlighted with endless, delicious appetizers, great project displays, and a silent auction from local businesses and community members.
